Catcher - “Comparing Saviors and Friends”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…Fontaines D.C., Shame, Idles

Catcher’s The Fat of a Broken Heart, the Brooklyn band’s debut record, is a strong collection of loose, post-punk, an album balancing classic DIY influences and more angular, chaotic sounds. While hectic and loaded with garage-rock grunge, there’s thick tension that flows through Catcher’s music, a bubbling intensity that can wane but never quit over their debut’s ten tracks. More woozy than tight, Catcher are driving but not sharp, a band that lets in experimental, psychedelic tones to twist their music in unexpected and dark ways. Catcher showcase on Friday night at Hotel Vegas at Volstead, performing right before a closing set from fellow recommended artists Cuffed Up. (Kevin McStravick)
