Finding a charming space within the combination of hip hop and dream pop, Coco & Clair Clair are drafting in their own lane on 2022 record Sexy. It’s an amorphous record, twisting and turning between airy synth melodies and heavier, industrial infusions. The latter is sparsely used, but is critical to balancing the abundance of floating sound-streams on Sexy. The Atlanta duo are also able to go full dance-pop on a dime, embracing trance-house influences that match the hypnotic tone that often accompanies Coco & Clair Clair’s sung and rapped vocal lines. Above all this fusion science, Coco & Clair Clair are charming songwriting and performers, relatively soft spoken in a way that blends seamlessly into their synth-pop dreamscapes. (Kevin McStravick)
