DADDY LONG LEGS - “Silver Satin”
SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6
Pairs Well With…The Black Keys, The Kills, Captain Beefheart
The preview singles from DADDY LONG LEGS’ fourth record Street Sermons are clear examples of band that has found their sound that they are always going to own with mature, yet still rambunctious, precision. For DADDY LONG LEGS, that specific space is punk-blues, scratching away at a classic 50s/60s pop mold to reveal the ragged origins within. Both vocals and guitar riffs are performed with upmost grit, like sandpaper across pretty, sweet-pop melodies. Keeping a balance of reverential throwback rock and can-crushing rawness actually gives DADDY LONG LEGS a sense of honest charm. It’s ultimately fun and loose, an inviting sound even when the swingin’ NYC band is at their heaviest. (Kevin McStravick)
