Sweet and delicate, Deer Fellow deal in the beautiful sides of indie folk on their 2023 EP Unraveling. Neo-soul melodies, blues guitar, and phased atmospherics augment the Deer Fellow sound, at its root one of two precise vocalists and a few guitar chords. The Austin duo performs with soul and grace, authentic from an alt-country angle and constantly pretty and forthright. The songs on Unravel are varied just enough to avoid coffeehouse plainness as well, finding adventure within a comfortable minimalism. (Kevin McStravick)
