Desiree Cannon - “Radio Heat”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…S.G. Goodman, Margo Price, Caitlyn Smith

There’s something about a slide-guitar melody that moves the heartstrings, a feature that applies to Desiree Cannon’s preview singles from her upcoming sophomore record Radio Heat. Authentic country and Americana tones highlight “Radio Heat” and “Fault Line”, so timeless that these songs could be off a record released any time in the last six decades. Cannon performs with simple grace, not overdoing her sweetened melodies and generally avoiding and pop trappings within a traditional genre. The result is comfortable and relatively raw, country in its purest form. Hopefully the rest of Radio Heat continues more of the same, mid-tempo numbers and spare ballads alike. (Kevin McStravick)
