Irish artist Fears takes electronic pop and turns it inward on Oíche, an album exploring ambience and lightly bouncing rhythms with a personal touch. There’s vulnerability both in Fears’ music and lyrics, open and wanting while delivered with subtle confidence. Trip hop inflections inform the songs on Oíche, pacing Fears’ music delicately and revealing the rawness in her songwriting. While mostly quiet and embracing space, Fears’ debut is emotionally resonate with reflective sadness, from the hospital views of “H_always” all the way through the echoed hope of “two_”.
