Film School - “Said Your Name”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7
Pairs Well With…The War on Drugs, New Order, Future Islands
Twenty years past their debut Brilliant Career, Film School continue to show their new wave, dream rock prowess on 2021 full-length We Weren’t Here. Full of creative guitars and synths, there’s a shoegaze quality to Film School’s music, more hypnotic than hook-based as they personalize a tempered, psychedelic rock sound. Other influences weave into Film School’s sound on We Weren’t Here including echoed folk on “Stratospheric Tendencies”, garage pop of “Why”, and the big-stage, catchy groove of closer “Take What You Need”. Add all this to Film School’s deep catalog for a wealth of lower fi indie rock, one that evolves with the times without losing their songwriting core. (Kevin McStravick)
