Future Crib - “Our Place”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 4

Pairs Well With…The Beths, Alex G, Wednesday

Future Crib deserve a multi-track listen, a band that is able to camouflage into different forms while nurturing a garage-pop/rock core. The Nashville band’s fourth full-length Full Time Smile was released in 2021 and was more recently followed up by single “Our Place”, and the maturity shows in both their songwriting and performance. Tight hooks give looser rock grooves intention, drawing sound back to 50s/60s rock while keeping a modern crunch in place. The result is often breezy but not boring, fuzzy while avoiding shoegaze layers. Using multiple vocalists, Future Crib is able to even further broaden their sound, passing back and forth in experienced collaboration. The sum is greater than the parts and the added depth keeps things interesting, even when their music is at its most comfortable. (Kevin McStravick)
