fuvk - “small talk”

SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Elliott Smith, The Moldy Peaches, Frankie Cosmos

Light acoustic reflections weigh fuvk’s music with quiet resonance, bedroom folk music with twee charm across the artist’s recently prolific catalog. Two albums, twentytwenty and Imaginary Deadlines, as well as a few complimentary singles were released in 2021, consistent collections of songs that take in dream-pop, indie-rock, and new-wave influences amongst their plaintive, folk-based songwriting. It’s impressive to be chameleonic in the softer sides of pop and fuvk makes quiet sound interesting across her subtly eclectic catalog. (Kevin McStravick)

2020 Review: Minimal bedroom folk artist fvck had a busy 2019, releasing two EPs and a couple follow-up singles to add to their vulnerable, tender catalog. While mostly based in lonely, spacious melodies, fuvk twists expectations every few tracks by adding full electro-rock production like on “Break”. The balance is nice, allowing fuvk to experiment while still rotating around a heartfelt core, like emo-pop filtered through layers of comfort and grace.
