Harry Edohoudwa - “ZOMBiES”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5
Pairs Well With…Denzel Curry, JPEGMAFIA, Kid Cudi
Psychedelic R&B/hip-hop performer Harry Edohoudwa recently followed up his expressive and experimental debut record Fire on the Mountain with single “ZOMBiES”, a track that moves between ghostly soul and funky alt-rock in creeping ways. There’s a sense of paranoia that carries “ZOMBiES” with rhythms and guitar licks peeking around corners before attacking in a chaotic chorus. It’s among the most powerful songs in Edohoudwa’s burgeoning catalog and also among the most unique. Hopefully more is on the way in 2022 and SXSW will be an opportunity to preview - Harry Edohoukwa showcases Friday night at Sheraton BackYARD. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Fire on the Mountain is a bubbling, experimental hip hop record born in psychedelic production, off kilter beats, and a as a twist, a fair helping of soul and R&B roots. Filled with religious imagery and internalized rhymes, Harry Edohoukwa performs in a sing/rap mix tone that draws from Afropop traditions twisted with emo-rap heaviness. While often well off a straight hip-hop plane, Edohoukwa’s music is weirdly accessible, finding times of cool groove to ground his music between passionate excursion.
