Hollyy - “Someone Just Like Me”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 3
Pairs Well With…Leon Bridges, Portugal. The Man, The Texas Gentlemen
Throwback soul through an indie rock lens, Hollyy find unique space to lay their classic R&B melodies. Dreamy atmosphere and breezy rock tones slightly twist Hollyy’s sound to one that is nostalgic without just retreading worn ground. A relatively new band out of Chicago, they just released their sophomore EP If You’re Ever Lost, a smooth collection studied in both jazz and classic rock forms. The 70s soft rock/soul influence is as apparent as ever on this latest collection, easy-grooving funk and R&B providing a smooth runway for Hollyy’s mid-tempo revue. Aided by sporadic horn melodies and piano-pop ivory-tickling, Hollyy should translate well to the stage as they swing through SXSW to share their sunny and hopeful musical vibes. Hollyy drew a closing slot for their Austin performance, gigging at Lambert’s late Saturday night with fellow recommended artists Emmett Mulrooney, Half Gringa, and Liam Kazar. (Kevin McStravick)
