JOSEON - “Slipping"
SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 1
Pairs Well With…Real Estate, Sun Room, BRONCHO
One of the most interesting things about JOSEON’s early singles is how clearly they are in the process of finding their own sound, dipping into jangle pop, deep psych rock, and breezy indie rock across six introductory singles since debuting last year. Based in LA, there’s some sunny Cali action here, but bridged with grimy, NYC-type rock and roll. More tripped out than straight pop, JOSEON are willing to find new approaches that go from woozy romanticism to straight up power pop song to song. No matter the direction, the band’s balance between accessibility and distance is spot on and makes their songs rewarding by not just doing one thing really well. A new band that is well under the radar at this point, picking JOSEON for a breakout in the near future is a good prospect call given what they’ve already shared so far. (Kevin McStravick)
