For an artist that dips into other genres with ease, add delicate indie folk to the list with Julien Chang’s new single “Home For The Moment”. It’s the first single from an EP by the same name and could be an indicator of the Baltimore-based artist going even more insular than the floating, chillwave zone of his last couple of records. A consistent theme is Chang’s light touch, softly placing romantic melodies within his quiet pop songs. “Home For The Moment” is a little more out-front than Chang’s earlier work as well, letting the listener in by opening a tender heart wide open. 2020 Review: Adding classic pop, jazz, and psychedelic rock variations to a chillwave core, Julien Chang’s subtle and moving debut Jules is a beautiful, detailed front to back listen. The Baltimore-based artist patiently constructs his songs with different movements, from opener “Deep Green” alone Chang takes the track from an ambient piano sonata to a chilled-out soul groove to a trippy instrumental space jam to close out the ambitious song.
