It’s interesting putting Kygo, an artist that has literally billions of stream to his credit, right next to emerging artists on the SXSW roster and that leveling gives an opportunity for his refined, textured productions to get a more detailed look. It reveals an artist with an incredibly strong pop touch, turning out deserved hits among a variety of collaborations in addition to his original and remix material. Kygo’s music often leans more on the pop than dance side especially in his verses, but lookout for big-tent breakouts in his choruses and hooks. While expectedly grand, Kygo’s music isn’t incessant, rather it goes down smooth whether in a field of thousands on a lone headphone listen. Kygo headlines new venue THE STAGE at SXSW, also known as Waterloo Amphitheater for one of the bigger showcases on the roster following Forester and Frank Walker. (Kevin McStravick)
