Los Retros released his first full-length in 2021 and Looking Back is a strong continuation of his distinct, woozy pop songwriting, slowed-down R&B tracks with a foot also firmly planted in Latin-pop ground. There’s sweetness that emits from Los Retros’ sound, weird yet comfortable, half accessible and half a psychedelic swirl. The Stones Throw artist recently followed up Looking Back with “Solo Tú”, a more traditional number that still exudes Los Retros natural, hands-in-pockets charm. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Woozy and sweetly charming, Los Retros’ form of chillwave R&B ripples gently and personably through the California newcomer’s DIY songcraft. While loose atmospherically, Los Retros is finely influenced in 60s and 70s pop/rock, whether in the hazy, psychedelic vibe or breezy harmonies that emphasize his otherwise cooled, pocket tone. His nonchalant delivery also makes his music more welcoming, less powered by pop hooks and more so emitting tropicalia energy and lovely beds of music for synths and guitars to lay down slow-jamming melodies.
