Lime Cordiale - “Pedestal”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 9

Pairs Well With…Vampire Weekend, The War on Drugs, DICE

Lime Cordiale are a decade-plus into their career and that experience shows on the smooth, pop-centered singles that have since followed up their collaborative EP with actor/artist Idris Elba from 2022. Bouncy rhythms, hooky choruses, and cooled alt-rock guitar lines highlight Lime Cordiale’s accessible, danceable form of indie rock. To have such sunny grooves with overdoing it is impressive, just enough psychedelic pop guiding their sound to avoid a clean, straight path. It’s been four years since the Australian band’s last proper full-length 14 Steps To A Better You, but their singles-centered approach to releasing music since has kept their catalog fresh until a follow-up is released hopefully sometime soon. 2014 Review: Aussie indie rock band Lime Cordiale has a real bounce to their music, tropicalia-laced percussion and melodies poured right into a traditionally formatted sound. One standout element worth calling out early is the use of a horn player, adding licks that draw anywhere from Latin grooves to traditional Western phrasing. Their latest EP, 2013’s Falling Up The Stairs, is worth a listen all the way through to take in the cohesiveness of Lime Cordiale’s sound.
