Low Island - “Forever Is Too Long”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Alt-J, Coin, The 1975

Low Island are a fusion band, electronic pop, indie rock, and jazz seeding the main elements at play, but the smoothness of their sound makes each genre sound at home on their sophomore record Life In Miniature. Based out of Oxford, England, Low Island are carving their own lane and feel like a natural evolution of chillwave into something a little crisper and with just a tinge of swing. Synth-pop melodies rise and recede throughout Life In Miniature and at its best, turning Low Island into a full-on dance band. Balanced with funk, R&B, and bright pop melodies, Low Island’s music is so sonically inclusive that it makes it more comfortable than less, a feat as they merge what could sound disparate in others’ hands. This genre talk aside, Low Island are extremely catchy even when they are stretching beyond the edges, expertly produced and crafted tunes that should escalate the quartet to bigger stages over the coming years.
