There’s a 90s soul/R&B energy in Luck’s music that is immediately nostalgic, but she blends it with some subtle chillwave atmosphere that cools out her 2022 EP It Wasn’t Luck and surrounding singles like “lowkey HIGHKEY”. A little hip hop and a little neo-soul too, Luck’s music is more accessible than experimental fusion. There’s positive energy in her songs too, not boisterous, but more like a friend pushing you through tough times. Luck performs Saturday night at Flamingo Cantina for Futuristic Femmes, an all-femme lineup rooted in hip hop and R&B. (Kevin McStravick)
