Moon Walker - “Monkey See, Monkey Do"

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…Jack White, Wolfmother, King Gizzard & the Wizard Lizard

Moon Walker is where funk, psych rock, and blues riffs find common ground, fuzzy pop-rock tracks steeped in 70s blueprints. Loose jams played over a tight rhythm section, Moon Walker’s music is experimental while built around a rock-solid core. Melodramatic and fuzzed out, the NYC-based artist’s sound is notably large without getting too poppy or overtly catchy. Witchy, grimy moods rather are centered on Moon Walker’s third LP Apocalypticism, dark but oddly fun at the same time. There’s even some new-wave and goth-rock influences at play here, but placed in a twistingly joyful way. Moon Walker showcases Friday night at Cooper’s BBQ. (Kevin McStravick)
