Mudd the student - Pseudoscience (feat. Chang Kiha)

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Jay Park, JPEGMAFIA, Balming Tiger

Balming Tiger continued to find success in 2022 with a BTS collaboration and a whole slew of new ears, an onramp for the impressive Mudd the student to continue to mold his mix of hip hop, pop, and rock in new and exciting ways. Specifically, Mudd the student released single “Pseudoscience” last summer, a punk-pop number that stretches into tight rock, electro-pop, and R&B moments all in under four minutes. Regardless of genre, Mudd the student is consistently exciting, surprising listeners while still sounding charming and catchy. Here’s to what’s next for one of Balming Tiger’s most intriguing contributors. (Kevin McStravick)

2022 Review: Listening through Mudd the Student’s wild 2021 EP Field Trip, it’s quickly clear who is the sonic risk taker in Korean pop/hip hop band Balming Tiger. Nu metal, funk, indie rock, sunny pop - not only does Mudd genre-hop track to track, he does it a bunch within his songs, like fragments of music stuck together with scotch tape. That musical ADD lets Mudd the Student cover a ton a space with upmost efficiency as Field Trip is over in just over ten minutes. Rapping and singing in Korean, Mudd’s lyrics are a mystery to English ears but no matter, the expressiveness of his fusion-pop catalog is powerful enough to wow an international audience come SXSW 2022.
