“N.E.Z.” is a perfect slice of hip-hop pop, a statement piece from Nezi Momodu that throws back to 90s rap tracks that still resonate today. A funky backbeat gives an area for Momodu to weave confident, memorable bars, an artist riding at the top of her game. From the sultry hook to Momodu’s sharp, bouncing verses, “N.E.Z” is a song that feels like its been around for twenty-five years and is a welcome entry to the Dallas-based artist’s catalog. Her last full-length was The Endless Hour: Volume One, a record similarly steeped in throwback, classic beats for Momodu to share her carefree rhymes. Beats both soulful and club-ready pepper Momodu’s music, repetitive samples and rhythms that put the focus on her talented lyricism. Above all, Nezi Momodu exudes command, an artist that is hip hop for hip hop’s sake and one that cleverly bridges past and present influences with studied ease.
