Paris Jackson - “lost” (feat. Caamp)
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 9
Pairs Well With…Lorde, Tomberlin, Jess Williamson
Paris Jackson’s lush, indie folk setting is a pleasant surprise across her 2020 debut record wilted and more recent follow-up the lost ep, two works that are subtly creative and adventurous around a normally plaintive form. Jackson has vocal tone both pretty and raw, a tone that fits will with the vulnerable nature of her often ambient soundscapes. Being the daughter of the biggest pop star ever certainly comes with unreachable expectations as Jackson sets foot into the music world and it is both a smart and successful approach to keep things minimal and emotive throughout her tracks. Jackson can lean full Americana as well like on “lost”, fitting well into country settings and a guidepost that she’ll be able to take some unexpected turns as she moves forward in her career. Manchester Orchestra fans will recognize the voice and production of frontman Andy Hull across wilted, a collaboration that has worked to pull out a unique stamp on indie folk from an artist brimming with potential. Paris Jackson showcases on Wednesday night for C3 Management at Scott Inn. (Kevin McStravick)
