Quarters of Change - “T Love”

SXSW 2023 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 6

Pairs Well With…The 1975, Gang of Youths, The Strokes

Funky indie pop and rock define Quarters of Change debut full-length Into the Rift, tight songwriting that’s part chillwave and part dense rock and roll. Not entirely grimy, yet not glistening as well, Quarters of Change find a cozy middle lane to craft their tracks. That strong core allows for some psych-rock and R&B excursions, a band that’s able to reflect post-punk energy as much as earworm pop. It’s in this balance that Into The Rift really succeeds and turns something fun and catchy into an ambitious and fulfilling work. Adding guitar jams and textured layering to what would normally up-the-middle indie rock is a surprising treat and is the reason Quarters of Change is able to consistently rocket into new and exciting space.
