Minneapolis sister duo REYNA deal in sweet, electro-pop melodies, finding a space that melds with chill indie rock across a consistently threaded series of singles the past half-decade. Sunny and upbeat, REYNA’s music is immediately appealing, simultaneously soft and chippy while studied in 80s synth-pop gems. The band’s latest is “Quarantine Baby”, among the wooziest of REYNA’s singles, journeying into neo-soul R&B with some bedroom pop atmospherics. Listening to REYNA chronologically shows a band willing to get more experimental and looser with their sound (2021 single “7’11” is one of their strongest, a dance-oriented pulser with a killer groove), so lookout for whatever 2022 brings from this promising duo.
