Sarah Klang - “Worst Mom”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Adele, Lana Del Rey, Cat Power

Mercedes is Sarah Klang’s fourth full-length, a record that revolves around the Swedish artist’s daughter, reflections on motherhood and her own childhood through the eyes of a created life. It’s a little more country compared to the relatively dramatic and romantic songs of a record like Creamy Blue, more pared back and letting the rich textures of her voice find a natural, sweet spot to land. While pretty and pastoral by nature, Klang puts the onus on her songwriting here and it really does shine, vulnerable in a way that only a child can bring out in a new parent. (Kevin McStravick)

2020 Review: Highly romantic and cinematic, Sarah Klang’s sophomore record Creamy Blue continues to grow her sound beyond her once tender, alt-country roots. Washed-out electrics, psychedelic pop layers, jazz inflections, and crying slide guitars all softly find their place on Creamy Blue, a full canvas for Klang’s insanely rich vocal. An unmatched instrument itself, Klang has a tone that rips at the heart and dynamically moves around an impressively wide range.
