Silver Synthetic - “In The Beginning”
SXSW 2022 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 5
Pairs Well With…Dawes, The Flaming Lips, Whitney
New Orleans indie rock quartet Silver Synthetic released their debut full-length in 2021, a self-titled collection of breezy alt-country and psychedelic rock tracks. Mostly hanging in a mid-tempo pace and heavily informed by 60s and 70s past-masters, there’s a balance of tension and dreamy sounds on Silver Synthetic, toe-tapping adventurism that can descend to deep, psych rock and climb back to sunny pop hooks by a song’s end. It can feel understated at first, but Silver Synthetic turn up the rock energy by most songs’ ends as synths and guitars build layers of riffs for maximum appeal. (Kevin McStravick)
2020 Review: Silver Synthetic is an exciting new quartet from New Orleans specializing in dreamy psychedelic rock, leveraging 70s-style songwriting but adding some chillwave atmospherics to give their debut singles “In the Beginning” and “Chasm Killer” some modernized haziness. Patient in their approach but inherently tight as a unit, Silver Synthetic are able to explore without ever falling off course, dipping into guitar solos between verses while still keeping a tasteful, relatively breezy sound throughout. That relaxed confidence is unique especially given these are the first two track from Silver Synthetic, finding a nostalgic groove as both tracks are informed by Americana and swampy, Southern rock influences.
