Sinkane - “How Sweet Is Your Love”

SXSW 2024 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…Curtis Mayfield, TV on the Radio, Jamiroquai

The joy that comes from Sinkane’s early singles off his upcoming record We Belong is immediate and robust, a gospel choir taking hold of melody while Sinkane personalizes his impassioned, R&B vocals. Psych rock melodies blend with his naturally tripped out perspectives on tracks from the Brooklyn-based artist’s latest. It’s impressive how smooth Sinkane sounds in 2024 compared to his earlier, more experimental work. There’s throwback appeal to these funk-leaning grooves, but Sinkane is more a futurist than one just mining past masters. (Kevin McStravick)

2013 Review: Sinkane is multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab, when he performs live he’s joined by Jason Trammell on drums, Mikey Freedom Hart on guitar and keyboards, and Mike Montgomery on bass. The sheer number of styles that make up Sinkane’s newest album Mars is staggering, the albums eight tracks incorporate everything from electronic production, R&B vocals, classic rock choruses, African polyrhythm, free jazz, and falsetto pop.
