Opening up with the grand, Western-influenced melodies of “The New West”, Altamesa introduce their sophomore record Idol Frontier as a cinematic addition to the band’s warm, Southern rock sound. The Austin trio blends classic rock and Americana influences nicely - Idol Frontier is a guitar record as much as an alt country affair and both styles play well together smoothly within Altamesa’s mature, studied songwriting. There are some psych-rock vibrations throughout Idol Frontiers as well, taking ever so brief excursions within such a well rooted sound. (Kevin McStravick)
