While rooted in smooth neo-soul, Annabelle Maginnis’ music is nicely experimental and textured, adding soundwaves and inflections within an electronic R&B sound to give her debut record Free Debris dynamic movement. There’s also a fair deal of jazz sprinkled across the album, giving some grooving naturalism to an otherwise purposefully distant sound. Maginnis’ melodies are sweet and subtly sweeping, but it’s really in her instrumentation and beats where her music holds interest beyond everyday lounge grooves. (Kevin McStravick)
