Babeheaven - “Jalisco”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…London Grammar, Solange, Portishead

Babeheaven’s latest EP Suspended Animation is defined trip hop - ambient space, dreamy melodies, and a flowing backbeat anchoring the impressive, cohesive effort. A little more experimental and synth-laden than some of her tracks, Babeheaven sounds both comfortable and ambitious on her second EP of 2019 following the smoother jams that make up Circles. While tripped out, her music is now grounded and professionally polished. Hypnotic tracks like “God Sent the Baby” pair nicely with groovier songs like “Jalisco” - while Babeheaven has a consistent sound, she is able to dip into new pockets to keep her music progressive in such a stable form. The UK artist has some earlier tracks that play more in a chillwave space, so it’s notable seeing her growth into such a mature, clean sound. (Kevin McStravick)
