Blushh - “July”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…Illuminati Hotties, Alex Lahey, Best Coast

Blushh play alt-rock with a sense of melancholy sunniness, balancing bright and grey on a pair of 2019 singles that follow the band’s sophomore EP Thx 4 Asking a year prior. “All My Friends” has a natural sense of nostalgia built into the LA-based outfit’s music and lyrics, cooly matching guitar and vocal melodies for some extra hook action. “July” follows a similar pattern but embracing their power pop tendencies even more, catchy both in verse and chorus. Hopefully SXSW 2020 means a new record is on the way from a band that has shown notable growth year after year. (Kevin McStravick)
