BRONCHO - “All Choked Up”
SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 8
Pairs Well With…FIDLAR, White Reaper, Portugal. The Man
Four albums in, BRONCHO keeps warming their fuzzy rock sound on 2018’s Bad Behavior, the Tulsa, Oklahoma quartet’s chillest effort, but one that still resonates with feedback and reverb powering their grungy melodies. They’re more inviting of shoegaze patience on Bad Behavior as well, molding their sound with post punk and filtered pop-rock influences, but holding back instead of letting their sound waves crash to shore. 2017 Review: Psychedelic fuzz pop waves continue to shape BRONCHO’s music, experimentally transfixed throughout their 2016 record Double Vanity. The band’s third full-length, their confident in their ability to slow down punk-inspired rock and still maintain caustic energy, almost minimal in relation to their genre.
2015 Review: SXSW regulars BRONCHO tightened up their sound and produced some buzzing waves with 2014’s Just Enough Hip To Be Woman, dropping most of the lo fi fuzz out to let the band’s matured pop songwriting to be highlighted. They are still the same punk-inspired band from BRONCHO’s debut Can’t Get Past the Lips, but strengthened not only in production, but just how consistently strong BRONCHO have grown as songwriters. “Class Historian” is BRONCHO’s best pop song to date and one of the strongest artist singles going into SXSW 2015, a doo-wop infused indie rock track that is countered by the rest of Just Enough’s dark, new wave soundtrack.
