Color Candy - “Somebody Else”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 1

Pairs Well With…Great Grandpa, Best Coast, Aldous Harding

Austin’s Color Candy has released five songs so far leading up to their debut full-length Something, Somebody, due this March, and they are a strong statement of the band’s range within their alt-rock realm. Latest single “Somebody Else” is the hardest of the collection, adding garage rock fervor and some shoegaze fullness to Color Candy’s power pop songwriting, a far cry from “Cold Shapes”, a lonely indie folk number spaciously performed and hitting heartstrings through tenderness and vulnerability. Check out “About a Ghost” for a taste of both ends of Color Candy’s spectrum, a six-and-a-half-minute epic that moves from bedroom pop to chamber folk to psychedelic rock over its adventurous time.
