David Ramirez - “Watching From A Distance”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 7

Pairs Well With…Wilco, Hayes Carll, Ryan Bingham

A rock-solid songwriter from an alt-country/folk angle, David Ramirez is remarkably consistent record to record, topped by 2017’s We’re Not Going Anywhere, the Austin-based artist’s fourth full-length. Focused around electric and acoustic ballads, Ramirez is an emotive storyteller that matches the rich tone of his vocals and instrumentation soundly. His music is lush and comfortable - you’ll swear you’ve heard these songs since a kid even on first listen. (Kevin McStravick)

2017 Review: It’s been a minute since we’ve checked in with one of our favorite country-laced singer-songwriters and it’s a good time for David Ramirez, coming off his strongest effort yet in Fables.  The Austin artist’s third full-length, Fables is a lyric-focused record, highly emotional with no filter from heart to microphone.  Slide guitar soundscapes and minimal instrumentation otherwise give Fables extra weight to every note and vocal quiver.  It’s affecting, especially bouncing between cool electric and bare acoustic tracks to exposure different corners of the artist’s soul.
