Deezie Brown - “Amplifiers”
SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 4
Pairs Well With…Anderson. Paak, Outkast, Mick Jenkins
Texas hip hop artist Deezie Brown is embracing the funk on 2020 single “Amplifiers”, a cool soul groove with some 90s R&B swing and a thread of chillwave ambience. It’s a natural evolution from the soulful beats and raps over his 2018 record Judith, less psychedelic and more smooth, but not outright throwback given Brown’s unique vocal drawl. Deezie Brown is expected to released his sophomore record 5th Wheel Fairytale sometime in 2020, so hopefully the chill grooves of “Amplifiers” persist on his next musical steps. (Kevin McStravick)
2019 Review: Austin hip hop artist Deezie Brown released his ambitious debut full-length Judith in 2018, an adventurous record both in production and verse. Exploring deep bass beats, 808 sampling and future-focused electro-rhythms, Judith is consistently interesting musically, letting Jones work lyrically heavy tracks using storytelling threads both outwardly classic and internally motivated.
