Ezra Furman - “Every Feeling”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 9

Pairs Well With…Mac DeMarco, Courtney Barnett, David Ramirez

SXSW regular Ezra Furman has excitedly built some steam since last year following a Netflix TV Sex Education series that prominently features past Furman tracks both new and from his back catalog. A distant sort of folk rock, Ezra Furman embraces alt-country and Western motifs into his core, classic 60s pop/rock sound. It’s a charming result that sound both old and new concurrently, a mature evolution and an anchor for the artist to hold onto in case things ever hint at falling off these delicate rails. 2016 Review: Ezra Furman and The Boy-Friends – It has been a couple years since we featured Ezra Furman on the site, needless to say we like him. He continues his evolution as an artist proving he can really go any direction musically and make something interesting and engaging. His newest album, 2015’s Perpetual Motion People, finds middle ground between frantic off-beat songs like Restless Year and slightly more introspective ballads like Hour of Deepest Need. He really captures emotion well with his songwriting and delivery and The Boy-Friends expertly play on the album’s thirteen tracks.

2014 Review: A consistent entry on the SXSW roster, Ezra Furman is going the solo route this year in support of Day of the Dog, a garage pop record disguised as a straight rock album.  This is the loosest Furman has ever sounded, an honest reflection that plays perfectly against the rambunctious, yet understand nature of his music.  Furman is consistent no matter what he tries and will continue to earn OEB write-ups as long as he keeps up his ‘perfect attendance’ record in Austin next year.
