Didirri - “Raw Stuff”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 9; Popularity Index: 5

Pairs Well With…Damien Rice, Phosphorescent, James Vincent McMorrow

Indie folk troubadour Didirri continues to produce powerful and emotional ballads following his 2018 debut EP Measurements, employing his uber-rich vocals to rip the heartstrings over minimal accompaniment. It’s a simple formula, but the output is consistently vulnerable and beautiful. His latest single “Raw Stuff” was released just last week and it is among his prettiest and most romantic tracks, a little piano song of truly timeless melodies. (Kevin McStravick)

2018 Review: One of the naturally strongest voices you’ll hear on the SXSW roster this year, Australian newcomer Didirri emits with a well of embattled emotion. Laid against minimal acoustic folk/pop, Didirri’s debut single “Blind You” uses a building melody to swelling impact. Finding confidence in saying goodbye, “Blind You” is a strikingly honest slice of songwriting, an impressive start that has since been followed up with “Jude”, a yearning dirge that grows into electric spaces by song’s end. While not experimental in its form, Didirri’s music is embellished with a mix of raw and spacious productional twists - harmonies, piano and some reverb, enough to keep things interesting without diverting from a song’s core.
