Divino Niño - “Quiero”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 4

Pairs Well With…Cuco, Steve Lacy, Chicano Batman

Divino Niño’a 2019 record Foam, the Chicago-based Latin R&B artists’ third full-length, is an extraordinarily comfortable and dreamy album, consistently bringing together the band’s chillwave pop sound. Washed out synths provide the backing for their sound, but instead of reverting to ambience, Divino Niño’s music grooves along is a mid-tempo space. The bilingual songwriters add generous psychedelic-pop perspectives in their melodies, tripping out without losing hold of each track’s core vibe. Their earlier material is more lo-fi and experimental, so it’s cool to see Divino Niño lock into such a smooth and mature sound a half-decade into their career. (Kevin McStravick)
