Ellen Krauss’ EP First Take introduces a promising songwriter with something to say. Its five songs are heartfelt and sung with raw poignant directness by the Swedish newcomer. It is charismatic bedroom pop with a solid folk base. The EPs standout track and her debut single, The One I Love, has a message of universal love and the right to openly express it regardless of who someone loves regardless if others approve. The production across the EP is stripped down and delicate allowing Krauss’ beautiful vocals and songwriting to shine. It serves as a perfect introduction to the bold singer’s first chapter. (Nate Headden)
