Enrique Campos successfully evolves a classic genre on 2019 debut Roto, a collection of tangos that flirt with cinematic grandeur (“Pasional”), lounge jazz (“Cuando Ya Me Empire a Quedar Solo”) and even some indie rock influence on highlight track “Luna Nuevo”. Campos’ music consists of piano, accordion, guitar and some percussion, using natural instrumentation to accompany his rich, dramatic vocal runs. Campos’ voice rightly stands out sonically on Roto, spotlighting his nuanced, romantic tone. (Kevin McStravick)
