Höröyá - “Sete Curvas”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Los Rakas, Liniker e os Caramelows, Snarky Puppy

Höröyá’s music follows a path of sonic immigration, taking root in African rhythms and melodies and applying them to the band’s Brazilian roots. Mostly instrumental and built of jazz-centric chords and riffs, there’s an improvisational spirit to Höröyá’s sound, but ultimately tightness and some psychedelic ghosts keep time within the band’s last three records. At fourteen members strong in their full-band setting, every member of Höröyá clearly has a part to play and while they sound full, Höröyá rarely sound too busy. They’re a patient band as well, letting their music breathe, making bigger, more intense moments that much more fulfilling given the journeys their songs take within tracks often six-plus minutes in length.
