Jasper Bones is a welcome addition to the burgeoning chillwave R&B genre, a bi-lingual artist finding connections between 90s-vibed melodies and hazy bedroom pop on his 2018 debut EP Cruise Control. The LA-based artist twists some sunny, Cali-smooth vibes on 2019 singles “Missing You” and Spanish/English bender “Amor De Mis Suenos” as well, letting some smooth, slowed-down funk stir Jasper Bones’ sweet soul music. It’s especially notable how Jasper Bones is able to meld melancholic material and straight pop/R&B into a sound that is cohesive even when going for a loose, psychedelic pop angle.
