Nanpa Básico - “Púrpura”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 10

Pairs Well With…Jay Romero, J Balvin, Maluma

Colombian hip hop artist Nanpa Básico has established a tight, reggaeton-infused sound on Compilado Viajaro, his fifth full-length of dance-oriented pop tracks. While there are many sunnier moments in Nanpa Básico’s music, he sounds at his most focused on his chillwave-like material of cooled-out R&B tracks like on hits “Flaca” and “Canela”. It’s not experimental per say, but the textures of Básico’s beats and vocals are well-rounded and rich, nicely shown in recent single “Púrpura”, widening an acoustic Latin folk ballad with a bass beat in smooth convergence.
