Moody, minimal indie rock anchors Pom Pom Squad’s sophomore EP Ow, minor grunge rock tracks that move from spacious, electric ballads (“Cherry Blossom”) to relatively breezy mid-tempo sounds (“Honeysuckle”) and the dense, reverb-drenched of “Heavy Heavy”. Ow’s production is somehow both minimal and musically big, powerful in moments where it needs to be but allowing for patient stretches otherwise. The Brooklyn-based artist often puts her vocals back in the mix, a personal songwriter that is able to move from spoken-like melancholy to tense yells like on explorative, passionate highlight “Again”.
