Quivers - “When It Breaks”
SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 8; Popularity Index: 3
Pairs Well With…Belle & Sebastian, Strand of Oaks, The War on Drugs
Quivers followed up their debut full-length with a couple singles in 2019, both of which find a cleaner, more pop-oriented version of the alt country/indie rock band. “You’re Not Always On My Mind” builds a breezy ballad into a mid-tempo rocker over the course of four minutes while “When It Breaks” recalls classic rock grooves with a memorable riff powering the well-constructed power pop song. Warm harmonies and a hooky chorus take “When It Breaks” to the highest levels of Quivers’ sound, hopefully an indication of what’s next for the Australian band. (Kevin McStravick)
2019 Review: Cool and breezy indie rock, Quivers’ sound takes Americana roots and translates them into a comfortable haze of hooky songwriting. The Australian band released their debut full-length We’ll Go Riding On The Hearses in 2018, a record that balances lo fi and smooth sounds in a wash of alt country guitars and mid-tempo rhythms. The result is a type of pretty melancholy, carrying rooted songs with internalized personality amid classic rock groundings.
