Sir Woman - “Highroad”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 3

Pairs Well With…Cat Power, HAIM, Wild Child

“Highroad” is the first single from Wild Child’s Kelsey Wilson as Sir Woman, moving away from the effervescent folk rock sound of her main unit to sweet, soul-pop sound built on classic grooves and melodies. A warm track also infused with indie pop bounce, “Highroad” is as infectious as it is comforting, rounded out with jazz and funk dynamics that steer the track into cinematic territory as the song subtly evolves over four minutes. Sir Woman has followed up “Highroad” with two songs that follow similar indie-soul threads, but latest single “Speak” is a more spacious, internal song that gives Sir Woman a softly psychedelic, ambient R&B angle to add to her otherwise past-connects-present approach.
