A beautiful and impactful debut single, Skullcrusher’s “Places/Plans” is a spacious and atmospheric entry into the minimal, bedroom folk genre, sweetly written and vulnerably performed. Disillusionment, loss, and growth are explored throughout the ultra-patient track, aided by budding synth sounds that resonate increasingly to build tension over the otherwise introverted, acoustic ballad. The LA singer-songwriter has mysteriously emerged in a vein that resembles the haunting presence within her music, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s next from an artist that has nailed an affecting sound from note one.
