Creole indie rock/pop band Sweet Crude are set to release their sophomore record Officiel//Artificiel this April, a follow-up to their creative, full, and spirited debut Créatures. Previewed by a couple of bilingual singles, Sweet Crude are proving that they are ready to go even grander within their infectious rock sound. Both “Rougarou” and “Déballez” follow a similar building pattern, the former built around hypnotic, deep grooving tension and release, while “Déballez” is an eruption of electro-funk and joyful pop fist-pumps. 2017 Review: Sweet Crude have a unique spin on upbeat indie pop, mixing it in with native Creole traditions for a percussive, energetic end result. Their songs include multiple layers of drums and most of their stringed instruments strum in pattern as well, yielding a highly danceable, completely organic experience. Bouncing back between French and English lyrics and liberally using sounds from New Orleans past, Sweet Crude’s music doesn’t necessarily sound like fusion pop, rather everything is so seamless that it feels like a genre in its natural state.
