The Still Tide - “Keep It”

SXSW 2020 - OEB Score: 7; Popularity Index: 2

Pairs Well With…HAIM, Sunflower Bean, Heartless Bastards

The Still Tide share some cool, soft rock vibes on their latest EP Between Skies, focused around mid-tempo, Laurel Canyon pop melodies. Frontwoman Anna Morsett has a rich, low voice that suits the tone of her music, a foundation that mixes breezy, alt-country tagged air with smooth synth pop accompaniment in a way that recalls 70s past-masters. Add in some dream-pop layering and The Still Tide complete a relatively cinematic sound rather than relying on straight Americana balladry. The Denver-based band’s back catalog is a little more straightforward soul rock amidst some minimalist electro-pop ballads, so it’s telling to hear this smoothly evolved sound on Between Skies.
