Swimming With Bears - “Keep Smiling”

Pairs Well With…Passion Pit, Chromeo, Vampire Weekend

While there’s a big and bright indie rock vibe in Swimming with Bear’s music, I was more taken with the Austin band’s soul revue side catching a set at last year’s SXSW. By incorporating threads of classic R&B grooves into their guitar-driven sound, they are able to give some comfort to an otherwise shined and quickly pulsing sound, overall providing warmth to a sharply bouncy disposition. That said, the tracks on their sophomore self-titled EP are catchy and memorable, hook-driven synth pop melding with alt-rock influences with ease. (Kevin McStravick)
